ACCESS Community Workshop 2024 (2-5 Sep)

ACCESS-NRI, Australia’s Climate Simulator, would like to invite you to the ACCESS Community Workshop 2024.

Climate, weather and Earth system models play a crucial role in understanding and predicting the Earth’s climate system. The annual ACCESS Community Workshop aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration around the science that uses the ACCESS models to address the complex Earth system challenges that Australia faces.

This year, the main Workshop will be held in Canberra, ACT on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country and online from 3-5 of September 2024 and the Training Day on 2 September, 2024 (only in person).

WORKSHOP THEMES

In 2024, the Program Committee seek to bring together people across all the ACCESS communities (Atmosphere, Ocean and sea-Ice, Land Surface, Earth System Modelling, Cryosphere, Forecasting & Prediction) to present and discuss current and emerging topics, both technical and scientific around the following broad themes:

  • Model development and model evaluation for CMIP7
  • High resolution modelling
  • Paleoclimate and ice-sheet modelling

WORKSHOP AIMS

  • Build community around the ACCESS models
  • Showcase innovative science and modelling approaches
  • Learn about new components developed for ACCESS
  • Share knowledge between Community Working Groups and foster new and existing community-wide collaborations

ACCESS COMMUNITY WORKING GROUP MEETINGS

This year, four Community Working Groups will have meetings as part of the Workshop on Thursday, 5th September including: Atmosphere Modelling, Cryosphere Modelling, Earth System Modelling and Machine Learning for Climate. You must register for the Workshop in order to attend these Community working group meetings.

The Land Surface Modelling Community Group will hold their workshop on 9-10 October. Registrations for this event are now open: Register here

The COSIMA (Ocean and Sea-Ice Modelling) already had a joint Ocean Modelling and Observations Workshop (OMO) meeting in July.

For more information check updates for each Community Working Group in the ACCESS-Hive Forum.
