Model Evaluation and Diagnostics (MED) team
About the team
Climate models are intricate simulations of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and ecosystems. To make sure these models reflect reality, we need to compare the model predictions to real-world observations like data collected from satellites, ground measurements, various Earth-monitoring tools and to other models developed by various researchers and institutions around the world. We call this process “Model Evaluation,” and in the realm of climate modeling, it is a critical reality check that allows us to improve the accuracy of our models, identify patterns and refine predictions.
Our team focuses on developing and maintaining tools and workflows for data processing and analysis to facilitate comparison between model runs and Earth observations, so we can enable researchers to address the challenges of climate change.
We work in close collaboration with scientific experts in specific domain areas, with international collaborators and across all the different areas of ACCESS-NRI.
We also support the development of the climate model components and visualisation of their outputs.
