Atmosphere Model team

About the team

The atmosphere and its processes are essential for life on Earth as we know it. Atmospheric modelling is crucial for understanding and predicting changes in the Earth’s weather and climate system.

The atmosphere component in ACCESS models is the Unified Model (UM) from the UK Met Office, which caters to both weather and climate applications across a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. This model integrates with land, ocean, and sea-ice components to deliver accurate weather forecasts and climate projections.

Our team focuses on the atmosphere component of ACCESS models by developing software infrastructure to help researchers run their simulations and effectively analyse them.

Engage with us

If you’re interested in learning more about our work or collaborating with us, we invite you to reach out or attend our monthly Atmospheric Modelling Community Working Group, which is open to everyone, especially early-career researchers and students. Together, we can enhance our understanding of the atmosphere and its critical role in our planet’s climate system.
