Context for the visit
ACCESS-NRI provides the research infrastructure for the ACCESS community’s contribution to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 7 (CMIP7), a project led by the CSIRO. ACCESS-NRI contributes to CMIP7 by developing and deploying models such as the Earth system model ACCESS-ESM1.6 and the upcoming ACCESS-ESM3.

In addition to these model contributions, ACCESS-NRI is developing scripts and workflows that convert CMIP7 forcings into model inputs such as namelists and ancillary files.
This is being done within the Momentum Partnership in collaboration with a team at the UK Met Office, led by Jane Mulcahey and including Stephen Pring.
Visit overview

Paul Leopardi and Stephen Pring at the UK Met Office.
In June, ACCESS-NRI staff member Dr Paul Leopardi visited the UK Met Office at Exeter for a week before the Momentum User Workshop. During this time Paul collaborated with Stephen Pring on the development of workflows for CMIP7 ancillary generation.
These workflows will be used by the Met Office for the UK Earth System Modelling project (UKESM) ancillaries, and by ACCESS-NRI for ACCESS-ESM1.6 and ACCESS-ESM3 inputs for CMIP7 experiments. The work is ongoing.
