About the workshop

Climate, weather and Earth system models play a crucial role in understanding and predicting the Earth’s climate system. The annual ACCESS Community Workshop aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration around the science that uses computing models to address the complex challenges that Australia faces.

The main aims of the workshop are to build the ACCESS community by bringing together technical experts and researchers and drive collaborations on new ACCESS developments. Everyone is welcome, especially students and Early Career Researchers. We also strongly encourage researchers using ACCESS model output (i.e., not only those running models or model development) or just wanting to know more about the models to participate.

The workshop also aims to:

  • build the ACCESS community by bringing together technical experts and researchers and enhance existing links especially in cross disciplinary areas
  • provide a forum for sharing science updates and get user feedback on priorities and capability
  • encourage active participation by students and early career researchers
  • update the community on recent ACCESS-NRI activities, resources available, reporting requirements and future plans
  • deliver training of ACCESS models and related software, data and tools to enhance user capabilities.

This is an opportunity to share your challenges and successes from working with the ACCESS models, exchange innovative uses of the models and enhance existing links specially between disciplinary areas.

Where and when

This year, the ACCESS Community Workshop will be held at Melbourne Connect (700 Swanston St, Carlton VIC 3053), on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. Join us for an exciting week of events from 8–12 September 2025.

The ACCESS Community Workshop 2025 combines events targeted at the ACCESS Community. Each of these smaller events has their own program that feeds into the larger workshop.

Main Workshop (Wed 10 – Thu 11)

The main workshop includes plenary talks and three parallel sessions designed as topics of interest for two or more working groups. The parallel sessions include 10 minute talks and lightning talks showcasing posters.
