Lawrence Bird

Lawrence is a Senior Research Software Engineer of the Ice Sheet Modelling team.

Lawrence worked as an Environmental Consultant in Canada for 7 years before moving to Melbourne to pursue his PhD. He has experience in stakeholder engagement, project management, and hydrologic and ice sheet modelling.

He holds a BSc Geography (2012, University of Birmingham, UK0, a MSc Geography (2014, University of British Columbia, Canada) and he is currently wrapping up his PhD in Antarctic Science at Monash University, with a focus on ice sheet modelling and geophysical inversion modelling.

At ACCESS-NRI, Lawrence is working to develop a Python API to interface with the Ice sheet and Sea level System Model (ISSM) being coupled into the ACCESS framework. Lawrence works with members of the ice sheet modelling community across Australia, and internationally, to understand user needs and promote the use of open-source software tools developed at ACCESS-NRI.

Outside work, Lawrence loves spending time with family and friends, travelling, running and exploring bars and restaurants in and around Melbourne.
