Justin Kin Jun Hew

Justin is a Research Software Engineer of the Ice Sheet Modelling team.

Justin completed a PhB, Bachelor of Philosophy – Science with a major in physics and an Honours in astrophysics as the Bok Honours Scholar of the RSAA, ANU. During this time, he published several papers on computational methods for solving physical problems, encompassing areas such as fundamental plasma physics, atmospheric and astrophysical flows, and fusion science. His thesis title was “Decaying magnetohydrodynamic turbulence: From magnetic fields in cosmic voids to dynamos in colliding shock-turbulence interactions”

Justin’s current role involves making open-source software more accessible for researchers from various backgrounds. He will be developing a python API for the ice sheet modelling code used by ACCESS. This includes creating an interface with the ability to perform sophisticated post- and pre-processing of simulations, as well as providing comprehensive documentation(s) and examples. His responsibilities will also include liasing with researchers, which is an aspect he enjoys very much.

Outside of work, Justin enjoys going to the gym, climbing, reading and hiking.
