Dr. Christopher Bull
Ocean Model Team Lead
Chris is the Leader of the ACCESS-NRI Ocean Model Team, which is responsible for developing modelling infrastructure for the ocean component of ACCESS models used by the Australian climate and weather community. The required tools are guided by the needs of the Australian research community, largely through the COSIMA Working Group, for which Chris is the ACCESS-NRI liaison.
Chris has a PhD (2018) in oceanography, studying boundary currents around Australia. Prior to joining ACCESS-NRI, Chris also studied Antarctic Ocean ice-shelf interactions in the United Kingdom at the British Antarctic Survey and Northumbria University. Chris likes to peer inside the internals of ocean models because they encode our understanding, often employing innovative solutions to challenging problems, they are then a heuristic to learning ocean physics. The most satisfying aspect of his current work is enabling others, Chris is passionate about open reproducible science and believes the best science is made possible by teamwork.
Outside work, Chris enjoys mountain biking, baked goods and trail running.
