Regional & Coastal Ocean Modelling team
About the team
Australia’s coastline is one of the longest in the world. Modelling weather and climate in the coastal region is essential, as these are areas where our population concentrates. This involves modelling processes like water quality, currents, heat, pollution and many more.
The ACCESS-NRI Regional and Coastal Ocean Model team focuses on developing and enhancing the regional and coastal components of our climate and weather models, to help understand the dynamic intersection between the ocean and land and to address the challenges presented by coastal change.
We create and refine the ocean models used in ACCESS, ensuring they are effective for various regional and coastal applications—from short-term forecasts to process studies, environmental assessment, and long-term climate predictions.
Our team assists researchers in using these models confidently. We provide tools, documentation, and direct support to help them run oceanic simulations effectively. We also participate in national projects (e.g., CoastRI and Australian National Coastal Ocean Modelling System (ANCOMS)).
Engage with us
If you’re interested in learning more about our work or collaborating with us, we invite you to reach out or attend our monthly Working Group meetings, which are open to everyone, especially early-career researchers and students. Together, we can enhance our understanding of the coast environments and their critical role in our planet’s climate system.
