Australia’s climate simulator, ACCESS-NRI is thrilled to announce its participation in the Momentum Partnership, joining an international collaboration that develops world-leading modelling frameworks for weather and climate science.
The Momentum Partnership includes access to the UK Met Office’s Unified Model (UM Model), which is the atmosphere component of the ACCESS framework.
ACCESS-NRI’s partner collaborators, CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology are the Australian core partners of Momentum, along with the Met Office in the UK and NIWA in New Zealand. Under this new collaboration, ACCESS-NRI will become a formal distributor of Momentum software.
“This partnership provides access to a significant capability that allows ACCESS-NRI to be an intermediary between Australian researchers and the UK Met Office and distribute the code to the Australian climate research community. This will accelerate our ability to deliver more accurate and timely climate simulations and enable global research efforts to understand and respond to climate change,” says ACCESS-NRI Director Professor Andy Hogg.
“By combining Australia’s unique expertise in Southern hemisphere climate and weather science with international cutting-edge technologies like the ones provided by this collaboration, we’re better positioned to serve both Australian and global communities,” added Professor Hogg.
