Model for Ocean/Sea Ice (OM2)

ACCESS-OM2 is the ocean and sea-ice component of the ACCESS coupled model. ACCESS-OM2 provides the Australian climate community with ocean weather and climate research, including seasonal forecasting, climate variability studies, downscaling of climate in the marine environment around Australia, and ocean biogeochemistry modelling.

ACCESS-OM2 is an Earth System model configuration that links the Modular Ocean Model (MOM), the sea-ice model (CICE), and a file-based atmosphere called YATM (Yet Another Atmospheric Model) and the Ocean-Biogeochemistry Model (WOMBAT), coupled together using the OASIS coupler.

ACCESS-OM2 has been developed by COSIMA (Consortium for Ocean-Sea Ice Modelling in Australia) in collaboration with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (for an ocean model component), the Los Alamos National Laboratory (for a sea-ice model component), and the European Centre Centre Européen de Recherche et de Formation Avancée en Calcul Scientifique (CERFACS) (for an atmosphere-ocean OASIS3-MCT coupler). http://cosima.org.au

How is ACCESS-OM2 used?

ACCESS OM2 is used as the ocean- sea ice component for the OMIP component of Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project (CMIP). ACCESS-OM2 is designed to be consistent with the fully coupled version of ACCESS (CM2).
